Locked out of heaven? Hardly. With two platinum albums, a string of No. 1 hits, and a massive tour on the horizon, Bruno Mars is set to have one hell of a summer.
For this week’s cover story, Mars invites Entertainment Weekly into his Hollywood home for a funny and frank conversation about everything from his upcoming single (“Treasure,” which he’ll debut at this weekend’s Billboard Music Awards) to why he’s totally looking forward to getting fat one day.

“I would love to go away for a while and then be able to write a song that I feel just as strongly about as I did with ‘Locked Out of Heaven’ or ‘When I Was Your Man,’” he says of his two most recent chart-toppers, before wryly adding: “I can’t wait for the reunion tour when I’m just huge and bloated, singin’ my songs seven keys down in Palm Springs. And it’s gonna happen. [Laughs]“

Of course, before the Grammy winner suits up those Sansabelts, he’s got a few more good (skinny) high-performance years in him. So what should fans expect from his worldwide Moonshine Jungle Tour, which kicks off June 22 in Washington D.C?

“I don’t think I would feel too comfortable like, wearing a harness,” the pop juggernaut says with a laugh. “I want the music and the sound to be rockin’, more important than the visual effects and tricks or whatnot. I don’t want to get lost in that. I’ve definitely seen bands before they made money kind of change their thing on the next tour, and I prefer it when it’s a little more raw. We always change it up, you know? It’s live, and that’s a big element of the show.”

(By the way: If you guessed that his cover photo with his big-cat co-star, a black leopard named Whoopi, is a nod to Moonshine Jungle’s name, you’re correct!)

Elsewhere in the Summer Music Preview issue, you’ll find out about all the other biggest and best tours, festivals, and albums. Plus: Learn what the summer hits will be, see how Icona Pop finally popped, and dig into Daft Punk’s favorite records.

Oh, and get an inside look at the season’s hottest bromance…
